Guide:Editing the timeline of recorded history
The Timeline of recorded history page was created by one of several Ashleys to have a central reference point for the timeline of this wiki's lore, so you don't have to look through 20 different pages to figure out if what you're writing lines up with everything else.
The timeline is not a primary source
[edit | edit source]Don't add something to the timeline if it isn't already mentioned elsewhere on the wiki or the News Site. If the date of something on the timeline doesn't match up with information elsewhere on the wiki, then the timeline should be edited, not the other parts of the wiki.
Formatting of the timeline
[edit | edit source]The timeline is listed in chronological order, and its formatting is as follows: Every decade featuring occurrences has a heading, followed by a sub-heading for each year with occurrences, beneath which is a bulleted list in chronological order of events that happened that year. (A bulleted list can be created, at least in the visual editor, by putting a * and a space at the start of a line.) If the date is known, the day and month are prefixed, if only the month is known then just that is prefixed, and if only the year is known, it goes at the end of the year. Events should end with a full stop and be written in the present tense. For example, a timeline entry under 1949 could be formatted as "11 March: John M. Waves is born." If the specific day wasn't listed elsewhere on the wiki, it would instead say "March: John M. Waves is born."
Chronological order
[edit | edit source]The timeline is in chronological order. If you don't have a day for something, put it at the end of the month. If you don't have a month, put it at the end of the year. If you have a day but not a month, please have a heated argument with the person who wrote the fucked up date.
